Day 20: Nicknames

Growing up I’ve had a couple of nicknames from my family. I was actually thinking long and hard about this post and whether or not I should disclose these information – ended up deciding to just let it all out there. To my friends who are reading this; if you dare call me by childhood pet names (numbers 1 to 4) I will by all means make you miserable.

1. Bing/Bing-Girl

I have no idea who started this. Force of habit I guess, then it stuck. Every time I got to the province one or two of my aunts would still call me this. The horror. I know it’s just for lambing but come on. :(

2. Ga

Derived from the ilonggo word; palangga which is a term of endearment down south. It’s equivalent to dear or darling. The only two people I allow calling me this is my mom and dad. Yes, my dad who is a full blooded foreigner actually calls me Ga. I miss my dad. Argh, I’m homesick again.

3. Ding

This, I have Tito Dong to credit. He’s one of my favorite uncles. And only he and Tita Leana can call me by this nickname.

4. BooBoo

I have absolutely no idea why my baby sister calls me this. But it grows on you. I guess calling me ate was too mainstream.

5. Donz/Dons

Popularized in 1993 by my ninong Joey. His kids call me ate Donz. And everything else was history.

6. Donskie/Donzkee/Donsky

Thanks to my dear cousin Ronna. Who also went by variations of these nicknames.

7. Dee

I forgot who started calling me this, but it was definitely during the Gossip Girl era. No I do not like that series, I think its silly. But there’s one person who consistently calls me this; Janine.

I think that’s about it. Unless Mammeh counts as a nickname too. I miss my Helios Family :(
